How Do I Create an Automatic Email Reply to Let People Know That I am Away from my Desk for Extended Periods?

Let's say that you're at a conference, or on a field trip, or just plain on holiday, and you want to let people who email you know immediately that you are not present to respond in a timely manner. Well, you can setup your NSU mail to automatically respond with a message that you customize to anyone who emails you. It's very simple, really. The hard part is remembering, upon your return, to turn this feature off!

Setting up AutoReply Email:

  • Open a browser, like Netscape Communicator, and go to NSU MailSite Express (http://mail.nsuok.edu), or click Go To NSU MailSite Express.
  • Enter your NSU UserID.
  • Enter your NT-NSU Password.
  • Click ' Log On'.
  • Click on the 'Options' link in the left margin.
  • Click on the 'General' link.
  • At the bottom, check the 'Enable auto-reply message' box.
  • Enter the message you would like sent as the reply when email messages are sent to you.
  • Click the 'Update Preferences' button below the message area.
  • Click 'Log Off,' and close your browser.

You're now set to Auto Reply everyone who emails you.

Important Note: Write yourself a note to Disable the Auto Reply upon your return by simply following the above procedures, with the exception of 'un'checking the 'Enable auto-reply message' box. Your message can be retained, you will merely have to enable auto-reply message in the future.
