OSAGE Access From Home

Computing and Telecommunications (C&T) has pulled out all the stops to bring you off-campus access to OSAGE and your e-mail!

C & T has been busy making changes around campus in order to make these new services feasible. Over the last year, C & T has replaced its aging firewall, reconfigured several hundred campus PCs, installed new security software, and created a software delivery system to distribute the necessary files so you can access OSAGE, e-mail and, in the near future, other NSUnet resources from off-campus.*

One result of these campus-wide changes implemented by C&T is that these campus services are now available though any Internet Service Provider.

C & T has many other changes in process, and even others on the drawing board, all designed to make your connectivity easier and more efficient. Stay posted to NETNotes for future updates!

*Osage does not function if you are using Microsoft ME Operating System.

Requesting the files

Now all employees (except student employees), can use PIOC, a new IFAS menu, to request "Off-Campus" access to OSAGE.

To receive the files to install the access program, you must first go into OSAGE from your campus computer, go into PIOC from the menu, and then request the files be e-mailed to your home computer.

List of files you will receive

You cannot download the files from this site because they are too large to put on a disk and take home. They must be e-mailed directly to the computer on which they will be installed. You must request the files yourself, and you cannot request the files be sent to anyone except yourself.

When you go into PIOC on Osage from your campus computer, the program will ask for an Internet Service Provider (ISP) e-mail address (any ISP will work). If you receive Cherokee mail at home, have the files e-mailed to that address and, if you receive the e-mail on your campus computer, forward the message to yourself right before you turn off your computer. That way, you will receive the e-mail with the files attached at home.

You may make up to five changes from the ISP e-mail address you originally enter. The program will count down and notify you when you are approaching cutoff. When the fifth change is made, the program will lock your UIDB records for Off-Campus access (but WILL NOT affect other UIDB operations). After the fifth change, you must call the help desk and request that your records be unlocked.

To receive additional copies, you must change your e-mail addresses using PIOC on Osage. Remember to observe the 'five' limit on changes, however, because failing to do so will cause your records to be locked.

Start by installing the files.

Setting up the program

To set up your home computer to access OSAGE, you will need five files, which you will request be e-mailed to your home computer. After you have received the e-mail with the files attached, follow the instructions on (1) how to install the files on your home computer and (2) how to access OSAGE via the Internet once the installation is complete.

Logon instructions

Once you have followed these instructions, you will have the same OSAGE capabilities at home as you have from your campus office. If you have any problems with installing or running the program, call 456-5511, ext. 5678 during normal working hours.
