Purpose:
The purpose is to describe Northeastern State University’s policy on access controlled University areas.
Policy Statement:
The policy of access control for the university is to limit authorized persons approved access to the areas in which are secured.
Granting of Access Controlled Areas of the University:
All of the buildings located on NSU property belong to the University therefore access to the controlled areas is at the discretion of the University administration. Secured access into buildings and rooms is designed to provide adequate building security for persons and property.
- Accurate record of access granted to each employee and student should be maintained.
- Clearances should be reviewed and documented on a periodic basis.
- Procedures for access should be developed that comply with all requirements set forth by the universities departments.
- Each department is responsible for the updates for access to their specific areas.
- Housing dorm students are granted access at the beginning of the semester and updated through the semester to reflect any changes.
- Academic security access is granted each semester with schedules designed to secure University equipment.
- Additional access requests must be approved by a dean or a director and forwarded to the director of C&T or his designee.
Options for Access Control:
The access control equipment installed shall be approved equipment designed to secure and monitor the access to the area.
Access Control Maintenance:
Periodic checks to preserve access control equipment from failure and decline shall be made.
Termination of Access:
Termination of access is determined by the status of the student or employee. Access control users are updated as needed to reflect any changes. Dorm access is removed at the end of each semester unless there is a change in the student dorm room assignment. All key/access cards are the property of the University and must be returned upon termination of employment.
